Eoin Morgan, a former captain of England, has left all forms of cricket.

England won the 2019 ICC Men’s World Cup under Morgan’s leadership.

Eoin Morgan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday. Morgan led England to an exciting One Day International World Cup victory in 2019.

When he resigned as England’s ODI captain in June of last year, the 36-year-old hitter from Ireland had already declared his retirement from international cricket.

In a record 126 ODIs and 72 T20 matches, Morgan led England as captain. A record is also set by his 118 victories while captain in the two versions.

He continued to play with Paarl Royals in South Africa’s SA20 and London Spirit in The Hundred, respectively.

In a message on social media, Morgan said, “It is with great joy that I am announcing my retirement from all forms of cricket.”

“After giving it considerable thought, I’ve decided that it’s time to stop playing the game that has given me so much over the years.

I have treasured every minute, from my move to England in 2005 to join Middlesex, to my final game playing for Paarl Royals in SA20.

Morgan considered himself lucky to have had the opportunity to see the world.

“Cricket has allowed me to travel the world and meet wonderful individuals, many of whom I have formed lifetime connections with,” he added.

“Playing for franchise teams all around the world has given me so many experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Morgan represented Ireland, including at the 2007 World Cup, although he was also eligible to represent England due to his English mother.

He went on to play 16 Tests for them, but it was the shorter version of the game that he excelled at.

Morgan assumed command of the T20 side in 2012 and the one-day side in 2014. He was also a member of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2010.

ABOUT EION MORGAN

Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan has played for both Ireland and England at the international level, earning a reputation as an imaginative and free-striking middle-order batsman, particularly in shorter forms. Morgan was a major player in the Irish young teams at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels in his early career. He was picked to represent Ireland in the Under-19 World Cup at the age of 17, and he was the team’s top scorer. Two years later, he was named captain of the Under-19 team, where he ended as the tournament’s second best run-getter.

Morgan was the only player in the history of the game to be removed for 99 in his ODI debut for Ireland against Scotland in August 2006. ‘Moggie,’ as he is known, then scored his first ODI century against Canada on February 4, 2007, becoming the youngest non-subcontinental player to do so. Morgan, at 21, was a member of Ireland’s spirited World Cup squad, which advanced to the Super Eights. The southpaw, who batted third, didn’t have a terrific tournament, scoring only 91 runs in 9 innings.
